Immigrant Herck Syboutzen Cronkheyt m. Wyntje Teunis Quick
Has anyone gotten all this figured out? That is, descendants of this couple who (I believe) came to America around 1640?I have found many bits and pieces from many of you, but most of your messages were back around 2001.I am a Cronkhite descendant and would like to be in the loop.If you can direct me to the latest, most complete information, I would sure appreciate it.
It appears that most of us believe we descend from this couple, but then of course there are various lines since then.Has anyone been able to put a lot of the pieces together?I know many of you were trying, back in 2001 or so.
My line is (according to what someone told me recently) the same as that of newsman Walter Cronkite, at least we share the ancestor Jacob Cronckhite, b. about 1737 in Phillipsburg, Westchester Co., NY.Jacob had a brother, Johannes.I believe Jacob married (in Dutchess Co., NY) Ann/Anna Ferguson, b. about 1741.It is possible that Jacob and Ann were at one time in Michigan. They had a dau., Alchee Cronkhite, who is my ancestor and who married Jonathan Case. They lived in Hoosick, Rensselaer Co., and other parts of NY.Apparently they also had a son who would be Walter Cronkite's ancestor.
I believe the parents of Jacob were Theunis Cranckheit (b 1708 Sleepy Hollow, Westchester, NY) and Antje Van Tassel. The Van Tassel-Van Texel line is very interesting as it may have a Native American chief in its ancestry, although that is debated.
If anyone knows this line well, or the Cronkhite ancestry in between my Jacob and our supposed immigrant ancestor, Herck Syboutzen Cronkheyt, I would love to hear from you, either directly (my email above) or over this forum--it would probably be useful to all.
Thank you!
Julie
