Many thanks for all the good information. I have followed Isabella's line right back to 1614 and I am now trying to trace through all the female lines up to the present day. It is quite a thankless task at times but I am enjoying the challenge.
You were saying on one of your messages that you were trying to establish if John Snr's parents were John and Alice nee Cooper.
I love a challenge. The problem seems to be which of the John Croppers married Alice Cooper. You will probably tell me I'm wrong but I think Alice Cooper was born 19/12/1804 and christened in Bacup. I found four records of birth, or christenings, for John Croppers for that period of time, one in 1805, two in 1809 and one in 1816. In 1809 a John Cropper was born to Joshua Cropper and Mary but in 1816 another John was born to Joshua and Mary. I am presuming that the child in 1809 died in infancy. The child born in 1816 is too young, would have only been sixteen when he married Alice. That leaves the two Johns, one in 1805 and one in 1809. Both these had a father called Abraham. The one in 1805 was christened in Newchurch, the other in Bacup. Personally I would be going for the one in 1805 as he is only one year younger than Alice. This is all pure speculation but if you would like me to dig a bit deeper, in Rossendale, I have some free time.
I did a search through one of the websites and, if the data is correct, it looks like John and Alice had six children, three in Bacup and three in Ashton Under Lyne. Alice Cooper and John Cropper were married on 09/02/1832 in Newchurch in Pendle. If this seems familar I did find some other details. Please reply to my e-mail address - firstname.lastname@example.org
