A few years ago I bought a "copy" *of the book,"Simon Crosby, the
Emigrant:His English Ancestry, and Some of His American Descendants."
It was written by Eleanor Davis CROSBY (1845-19??) and published in Boston
I have not read the book, partly because it does not include my family-line.
I'd like to offer the Table of Contents:
Chapter I.The English Ancestry of Simon Crosby, the Emigrant
Chapter II.Thomas Crosby, Father of Simon Crosby, the Emigrant
Chapter III.Simon Crosby, the Emigrant
Chapter IV.Simon Crosby of Billerica
Chapter V.Early Crosbys in Billerica
Chapter VI.Two of the Crosby Family in Billerica During the
Chapter VII.The First Merchant in the Family
Chapter VIII.The Present-Day Crosbys of this Line of the Family
The pages have large type, and include about 40 pages on the ancestry of
Simon CROSBY, and then 20 more on Simon, the emigrant. There are almost
30 pages on the Simon in Billerica.
Chapter V on the early CROSBY's in Billerica includes:
Joseph CROSBY(Simon, Simon), with his wife, Sarah FRENCH, and their
children:Joseph, Sarah, Rachel, William, Mary, Thomas, David, and some
information on the children.
Chapter VI on the 2 CROSBY's in Billerica during the Revolutionary War
Hezekiah CROSBY (Simon, Simon, Joseph, William), with his wife, Anna
WHITING, and their children:Anna, Timothy, Deborah, Jeremiah, Rhoda, and
some information on the children.

Elizabeth (EVERETT) DAVIS, and their child:Sumner-a South Boston (MA)
family, and information on this son.
The Appendix A includes:Early CROSBY's in Yorkshire.Appendix B

==I will do look-up's for a few days. But, there is more text - than
Betty(near Lowell, MA)
* I bought this from aneBay auction (it is Xerox copies). You can
probably find it there again - at some point !Or, it is possibly in some
** A note on the cover says that the author also wrote:"William HOOPER,
1635,"and"Dolor DAVIS, 1634 --Richard EVERETT, 1636."
FYI:As I mentioned in an old posting,I am reportedly from the line:Simon,
Simon, Samuel, Samuel, Simon, John, Eliza. And, the line basically goes
from Billerica to Shrewsbury to Menotomy(aka West Cambridge, aka
Arlington, MA).And, I just noted that Eleanor, the author, had a
mother, whose maiden name was Elizabeth EVERETT,andthe Simon CROSBY,
b1663, reportedly married a Hannah EVERETT.Even though the author was
born almost 200 years later, perhaps the CROSBY and EVERETT families
remained closely tied.
FYI:Since the book being discussed was published in 1914, and it only
includes the family line of the author,IF anyone is looking for a "large,
Genealogy project,"perhaps you could take on the summation of the
descendants of the Simon CROSBY in Billerica.A quick look at the
World-Connect Project last night showed that many researchers have studied
these descendants.A simple way to start off such a project would be to
print out all the on-line data from researchers and -prove them wrong - or
prove them right !
For instance,I noticed that there was a Simon CROSBY, b~1758 who married a
SarahHOWE,but my ancestor, Simon CROSBY, b1758, married Lydia Harrington
FROST.(This Simon, b1758 in Shrewsbury, was the son of Samuel CROSBY
and Azubah HOWE.)
No matter what --it seems that the Simon CROSBY descendants were fairly
prolific !And, I have a note in the book that Simon CROSBY in
Billerica had an older brother, Thomas, and a younger brother, Joseph.
Joseph settled in Braintree, and Thomas lived in on Cape Cod, and they
probably had many descendants.
FYI:I just noticed in the Preface the following:"For those
interested in the bibliography of the Crosby family in America,I will say
that the earliest attempt to compile an extensive genealogy of the Crosbys
in America was made about fifty years ago by Professor Howard Crosby, D.D.,
Chancellor of the University of New York, and Professor Alpheus Crosby of
Dartmouth College and Salem, Mass.....In 1877, Judge Nathan Crosby
of Lowell, Mass., a brother of the above-named Professor Alpheus Crosby,
published a 143-page volume, giving the descendants of Josiah Crosby, born
at Billerica.........In 1896, Ernest Howard Crosby, Esq., of New York
... compiled a genealogy of the descendants of William Bedlow Crosby .....
In 1906, the Crosby's of Brattleboro, Vt., printed a pamphlet pertaining to
their family ....In 1912, Simon Percy Crosby, Esq., of St. Paul,
Minn., published a 212-page volume he had compiled, principally of the
descendants of Oliver Crosby, born in Billerica ... 1769.....
Crosbys of MAin Paiges's History of Cambridge, ...History of Billerica,
Freeman's History of Cape Cod,History of Ashburnham,History of
Shrewsbury,Early Settlers in Rowley, History of New Hampshire,History
of Jaffrey, History of Hampton, History of Charlestown, NH(which Janice
mentioned)," ... etc., and histories of Maine and New York towns.
