My mother's maiden name is Rosemary Crotch (1926), daughter of Percy Crotch (1890s), granddaughter of Walter Crotch (1860s) all of Norwich, Norfolk.
There is clearly a family link to the same Flemish family who were freeman of Norwich in the 15th and 16th centuries, as carpenters, cabinet-makers and plasterers. Both Walter and Percy Crotch were plasterers so there is solid consistency in the genes. I believe William Crotch's father was a carpenter.
But since William Crotch spent most of his life outside Norfolk we are clearly not his direct descendants. My mother and I have a few of Dr William Crotch's drawings and watercolours, none very good and one very early, of King's chapel.
