Well, this July will be 2 years I began delving into my family history.I really did not even know what genealogy really was all about, but had I known, I would have made it my profession and got a degree in it!It is really so much fun and very rewarding. It will make a person who never had a love affair with history become so engrossed with how families progressed and lived their lives.I have to make myself take interest in the "hear and now".:) :)
Richard (Dick) Crutcher b. 1836 Davidson Co. TN and d. August 24, 1915 in Wichita Co. TX.He served in McCann's Cavalry with Nathan Bedford Forrest. His marriage bond of December 12, 1859 Davidson, TN lists Louisa F. Ham as his bride.
Known Children out of their 11: Tom b. @ 1861 in TN (1870 TX Census only data) Samuel b. @ 1862 in TN (1870 TX Census only data) Richard Charles b. @ 1866 in TN (most known of siblings) Mary L b. @ 1869 in TX (1870 TX Census only data) Harry H. b. Mar 15, 1878 Jacks Co, TX, d. May 2, 1935 Lillard (L.C.) b. July 17, 1880 Dallas Co.TX, d. Feb 6, 1935
I have just now began working on Harry H. Crutcher, my grandfather Lillard's brother.
1910 Jackson Co. Oklahoma Census: Harry H. Crutcher 32 Metal worker Pearl age 24 b. TX father b. in Germany, mother in Louisana Naomi age 6 b. May 5, 1903 Ind.Ter., d. May 11, 1971 TX
Naomi married Edward Smiley June 16, 1918 in Ardmore, OK
My dilemma: Richard believed to have taken on the last name of Crutcher here in Texas.I need to find his decendants to ask them the questions, "Was the story passed down through their side of the family that our Richard changed his name, and do they know what his birth surname was?"
My most recent thought is that maybe Tom and Samuel went back to their original name as adults and that is why I cannot find anything on them.Tom was 9 and Samuel 8 in the 1870 TX census, so maybe they decided to live their adult lives with their real name!I believe that name to be Dabbs/Dobbs.But I also know from the 1900 TX census that Richard and Louisa only had 5 out of their 11 children still living then.I know the names of 3 out of that 5, Richard Charles, Harry H, Lillard (L.C.)
Can anyone help me out any further with any of these people?
