Richard, I was just sent a copy of the Stewart county court record dated July 1839. Richmond and Garland Statham post a guardianship bond of 3,000 for the Crutchfield children. It states as follows:
STEWART county Ga Know all men by these?that we RICHMOND Statham and GARLAND Statham are held and firmly bound and the justices of the Inferior Court setting a court as a court of ordinary and their successors in office in the just sum of three THOUSAND dollars payable by the said RICHMOND Statham and GARLAND Statham or either of them their heirs executors administrators or assigns jointly and severantly?? to be void as condition that is the said R Richmond Statham shall do and perform all the duties of Guardianship for the persons and property of Meredity, Thomas, John and Sarah Crutchfield orphans of the JOHN CRUTCHFIELD DECEASED!!! Law requires him otherwise to remain in full for a power and virtue. Witnessed our hands and seals first day of July 1839.
So we now know for sure that John Crutchfield sr was deceased in 1839 therefore, he cannot be the John Crutchfield that married Mary and moved to Florida.
