Who her parents were is a GOOD question.I have been working for about 2 weeks to identify all the early CULBERTSONS in Maruy Co.Andrew married Polly FITZGERALD there in 1828, then died in Hickman Co KY in 1836.It would be logical that she return to Maury Co where her family resides...
There is a widow Mary on the 1850 census, living with her daughter Eliabeth Marler/Marlow, and an unmarried dau Nancy.Mary P.CULBERTSON Jenkins was single, living with a family of FIELDS.Mary Fitzgerald had a brother that married a FIELDS girl, so if Mary P.is the dau of Andrew, then the Fields may be some kind of cousins.
There is also a Julia there that married in 1844 to John Riley McNabb, named a son James Andrew, and they wrote a short bio on him, saying his mother Julia was 'the dau of Andy Culberson.'
Then Sarah MARLOW, dau of the Elizabeth above, married a McNabb.Found her TN death certificate that named the parents.
So there are faint trails to connect Julia to the widow Mary.Mary FITZGERALD had a sister named Parathenia, and so throw in Mary Parathenia CULBERTSON Jenkins.
There was a Caroline JONES m Joe Mills, and her mother was Bertha CULBERSON, from NC as well as the Jones line.Sugar Jones lives next door to James d. 1824, and where you find Culbertsons you usually find some Jones families around.I tracked her thru various names spellings back to Berthenia, and then Bethenia rang a bell. She is the daughter of Samuel Culbertson d 1817 & Sarah JONES, he being the son of Andrew d. 1804, brother to my James d. 1824, all of Chatham Co NC.So I have found ONE!!!
Then there is a bio on Richard D. Culberson, born 15 Mar 1850 in Maury Co.I find him still there after 1900, married there in 1877, but can't find him on a census earlier than 1900.Bio says he is the son of John and Mary CULBERTSON Culbertson. So, his mom could be the widow Mary on the 1850 census... and she be the widow of a John...not Andrew. And is wife is another CULBERTSON to find ..
So, I don't KNOW who the parents of Mary P. CULBERTSON Jenkins were. But when she moved to Stoddard, they moved right into the middle of the ones that lived just south of Bloomfield.Hwy 25 runs thru there. On the east side was Josiah Sr, Josiah Jr, & Hiram. On the west side was Wm L [Josiah's son] and James m Elizabeth HAYS from Maury Co [his parents unproven, but has to be the son of Andrew d 1836 or his brother James d 1840, both Hickman Co KY].Wm L. is also married to a HAYS girl, sister to James' wife.I put James under Andrew because he was born in '1824 in TN,' and James d 1840 was in Montgomery Co NC in 1827 while Andrew was in Maury Co TN.On the census in 1860, George and Mary Jenkins are closest to James Culbertson and Elizabeth HAYS.And... James and Elizabeth named a daughter Mary Parathenia CULBERTSON, b 1860 m Wm Bolin...
So you can see that I am really leaning towards Mary P. CULBERTSON Jenkins to be the daughter of Andrew Culberson and Mary FITZGERALD.It's all speculation at this point, but several points to lead that way.
Andrew and brother Aaron are on the 1830 census in Maury Co TN.There is also a John there.I used to think that he was my Jonathan, with his name shortened, and a few people off on the kids. His son James can be proven to be born there in 1825.But in 1830 Josiah, big bro, is in Madison Co IL and has an extra family living with him that would exactly match to be Jonathan, and Jonathan has a daugher that always said she was born in Il, about 1829/8.That leaves and unknown John in Maury Co in 1830.
More mystery, and more fun to search for...
If you should find anything on any of the above people, I would really appreciate knowing about it too.
