I am a 2'nd great niece of Thomas Culpin born 12 may 1818 who married Mary Ann Charter in Q1, 1844. Our common ancestors are Charles Culpin and Catherine Watts, his parents. Charles Culpin was christened 6 Aug 1787 in Elton, Hunts and died 2 Sep. 1852 in St. Ives, Hunts. Catherine Watts was born 1782 in St. Ives. Hunts and died 5 Jan. 1869 in St. Ives, Hunts. Catherine was a widow when she married Charles and the marriage records her as Catherine Sutton. The common believe is that they began living together in 1811 and had nine children but the official recorded wedding was 29 May 1828 in St. Leonards, Shoreditch, London, England. Charles' first wife died in 1810 in childbirth leaving him to raise a daughter. As far as Thomas Culpin & Mary Ann Charter go my records show 5 or 6 children. - Thomas Charter b.registered Q3,1844 in St. Ives. - Charles b. registered DQ 1845 in St. Lukes - Arthur b. registered Q4 1847 in Greenwich - Mary Ann b. registered DQ 1848 in Greenwich - Alfred b. 1856 Greenwich - Stanford E. Mc Lewis b. abt. 1864 in Holloway, Middlesex, England. He is listed in 1881 census as a son but wonder if he isn't a border?
I have worked along with two other Culpin connections over the past year and we now feel we can trace the family back to the early 1700's in Woodnewton, Nothamptonshire. I trace my connection through Thomas's eldest brother Charles Culpin who was born in 1811 in St. Ives. I am the Canadian connection to the Cuplin family. My grandmother May Naomi Culpin married John Albert Harrison of St. Ives in 1906 and emigrated in 1907 to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. If I can be of any further help or if you have info to share it would be welcome.
