Sheridan Drowatzky asked whether I am related to the Fauquier County, Virginia, CULVERHOUSEs.At this point, the answer is "maybe."
My husband's ancestor was Nancy A. Culveyhouse (1845-1922), who married Caleb N. BENTLEY in Union County, Tennessee, on 3 April 1866.
Nancy appears to be the daughter of Lewis Culverhouse. The 1860 census of Union County, Tennessee, lists Lewis Culverhouse (54) as a farmer in the 3rd District. He has $200 in real property. He is illiterate.Francis [sic] Culverhouse (53) is a House Keeper. Also in the household are Martha J. Culverhouse (32, Domestic), Andrew Culverhouse (19, Farmhand), Nancy A. Culverhouse (16, Domestic), and James L. Culverhouse (9).Frances was born in Virginia; the others all were born in Tennessee.Their post office address is Haynes (p. 441A, household 314, my transcription).
Lewis is SAID to be a son of a William Culverhouse, but I do not know whether that was the William of Fauquier County, Virginia, who married Elizabeth Rector on 4 December 1804. Does anyone know whether William moved to Tennessee?
William of Fauquier County is believed to be a brother of Sheridan's ancestor Cloe Culverhouse, who married George Tolle.
I am pretty sure of the connection between Nancy and Lewis (and his wife Frances SMITH), but I do not have proof of Lewis's descent. I would be glad to hear from anyone with evidence or suggestions for research.
