Searching for Culverson Family -pre 1814

Hi Thelma,
This is very interesting to read, since my Great Great Grandfather was named Andrew Culbertson. however, I have also found him under Culbertson and Culberson, spelled both ways in IN. and Culbertson, Culberson and now tonight have found him listed in the 1840 census for Livingston County, MO as Culverson, first time I have heard of this name! So in MO, he is listed under all three names! However, they are all one and the same person! I think it depended on whom you were talking to at the time way back and who took the census, what name they were listed under! I would very much like to find out who Andrew's parents are, since my Great Grandmother was his Daughter and she was born in Gibson County, IN on Jan.17, 1821. So he had to be born either late 1700's or about 1800, I have a feeling in PA. Don't know why I think this, but I do! Hopefully someday we can all get this family straightened out! I know there was a lot of intermarriage with the Family, that could be another reason why names are mixed up! Then, too in traveling around, letters in the names may have become transposed, as some of these people were illiterate, I am sure! So a strong possibility the name was spelled as someone thought it should be! I believe if and when we find out, the correct spelling will be Culbertson! They are Scotch Irish and a well connected Family! If anyone has any info on Andrew, I would appreciate hearing from you! Thank you so much for any cooperation and help! Good luck in your searches. Jane
