I understand the importance of verifying info before stating or posting the info as fact. I do not see any harm in repeating family legend and lore handed down from generations, providing it is declared as not being proven. I am a descendent of Thomas, through Joshua, his youngest son. According to our family history passed down for generations, Joshua Asbury "Doc" Culwell boasted often that his grandfather was Irish and that is where he and his children got their fiery red hair. There has never been a question in our family line that the Culwell line is originally of Irish descent. But, with that said, I have no sources to prove that. Your census source could be wrong also. You are aware that census sometimes were recorded inaccurately, since you are an experienced researcher. If immigrants did not go through the naturalzation process, many times they lied about their origin of birth. All of this is just food for thought. I believe that Thomas or the generation prior to Thomas did immigrate here from Ireland, but this IS NOT SOURCED YET.
