Hi Gerald, I have become intrigued by the name Mirillis - although your family is not connected to the Cundiffs I am researching.
I did find some info that may confuse the issue more or help - you can sort it out.
Lucy T. Phillips b. 11 Mar 1812 Anderson County, KY
(daughter of Richard D. Phillips and Mary J. Terrell - both of VA, came to Anderson County in 1834 - farmer. They had 4 sons and 8 daughters:
mentioned: Lucy T, MARILLES, James, Julia A (married Frank Martin) )
Lucy T. Phillips married Jeremiah Riley in 1829 = Mr. Riley a native of Anderson, KY
Jeremiah Riley moved in 1832 to Wayland (I believe in MO)- farmer
until death in 1846. He was also a silversmith
Lucy T. Phillips Riley married William Bartlett in 1848 ( He of KY and died 1876 in Clark Co, MO - one of the earliest settlers)
However, Lucy was NOT HIS FIRST WIFE. SUPPOSEDLY his first wife was Sarah Beauchamp - married before 1839).
THIS INFO IN BOOK:

1860 Marilles (dau of William Phillips and Mary BARMAN)

ALSO BY 2ND HUSBAND: SHARTS SURNAME: ROY AND PARK

info on Ancestry.com SHART MESSAGE BOARD.
PHILLIPS SURNAME - GENFORUM:
see the info listed there - no need to repeat.
Rafe is sometimes listed as:Rafe, Raffe, Raefe, etc - probably German name.I did not find any of the variations associated with Merillas or Mirillis.
son of Mirillis (Phillips) Cundiff and Casper A. Sharts:
ROY SHARTS -
mentioned in HISTORY OF NORTHEST MISSOURI - a google.book
"Roy Sharts and Son - he was mentioned as Editor of a weekly paper called Gorin "ARGUS". Gorin is a town. It was 2nd in size in Scotland County
started in 1886-87. At that time the A, T, and Santa Fe RR was completed.
Population in 1910 in Gorin and South Gorin = 830.
The Book by Walter Williams and seems to part of a number of Volumes
about the History of Northeast Missouri.
P. 336: WHEN THE WHITE MAN CAME TO REMAIN (Title of the Chapter)
paragraph 3....JOHN CONDIFF(NOTE SPELLING) AND JEREMIAH RILEY "
(Year 1831) mentioned - as settlers.
Book continued:(this Jeremiah Phillips may have been kin?)
p. 407Jeremiah Phillips JUROR August Term 1838 LINN COUNTY (MO)
p. 408 - PIONEER SETTLERS OF LINN COUNTY(MO)
Jeremiah Phillips "others who settled in the county before its
organization were....Capt. Jeremiah Phillips...."
"The early settlers were in the main Kentuckians with a few from Virginia and Tennessee."
p. 413 p "COUNTY REPRESENTATIVES" (List)
"1846 - Jeremiah Phillips, Democrat"
p. 414 OTHER COUNTY OFFICERS
"The circuit clerks....Jeremiah Phillips...."
also p. 414 "...the first county trearuer. The other treasurers in order of service were Jeremiah Phillips..."
VOL III p., 1035 - c. 1913 - THE LEWIS PUBLISHING CO.
HISTORY OF NORTHEAST MISSOURI BY WALTER WILLIAMS.
"In 1856 Mr. Sharts married to Mrs. John Cundiff, a widow with 5 children, they had a family of 5 children: Roy, Park P, and Henry..."
So that gives the name of Mirillis as Mrs. John Cundiff.
I didn't find any other reference to CUNDIFF, only the one to JOHN CONDIFF.
OTHER: MARILLAS BOND b. 1841 in Lawrenceburg, Anderson Co, KY
married William F. Burke - This Marillas may have been some kind of kin
to the Phillips. Maybe that is how they decided on the name Marillas, Mirillis for their girl.
I have enjoyed researching this family and hope that it will help to have some of this most interesting information. There is so much on the internet it is almost overwhelming, but some of it is confusing, too.
