I am attempting to find information about my great great grandfather, John Cunningham (probably born in 1840s / 1850s), of Drumcliffe, County Sligo.John died in Dublin in June 1928, and was then resident in 43 St. Ignatius Road in Drumcondra.Prior to his death he worked as a gardener in the Board of Works. Some time before 1901, he worked as a coachman.
John was married to Mary O'Brien, who was also from County Sligo.Mary, who was born in 1850 / 1851, died in 4 Graham's Row in Dublin in 1908, having previously worked as a laundress.
John and Mary had at least two children.Joseph was born in Sligo in 1876 / 1877 and was working as a carpenter in Dublin in 1901.I have no other information about him, but believe that he may have died before 1928.Their other son, William, was born in Galway City, in March 1880.In 1901, William was living in Dublin with his mother and brother, Joseph, and was working as a draper.
John was not living with his family at this time (1901), nor was he for many years afterwards. Some time before he died in 1928, he returned and was living with William and William's family at the time of his death.I have been unable to establish where John was in the intervening period. The only points in time where I can locate him are 1880 in Galway City and 1928 in Dublin, when he died.
I believe, but have been unable to firmly establish, that John may have been a brother of Andrew Cunningham (1855-1928) of Drumcliffe.Andrew's parents were Andrew Cunningham and Elizabeth Crystal, also of Drumcliffe.
John's son, William, married Elizabeth Ennis (1881-1961) in Dublin in 1909 and lived in 43 St. Ignatius Road thereafter. They had three children: Margaret Mary (May) (1910-1991), John William (Sean) (1917-1951) and William Oliver (Bill) (1921-1960).William worked as a goods packer in Arnotts' department store in Dublin.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who might be able to assist me in my research.
