On the 1850 U.S. Eastern Subdivision 12, Sevier, Tennessee Census for Alfred C Cunningham, (age 19) b. 16 Sep 1831 d. 10 Dec 1882), it shows him as living with an Alfred Cunningham, possibly his father, (age 42) b. 1806 d. 1885, and his wife Mary Polly, (1820 - 1897), including their children.
That same census shows a Margaret Cunningham, (age 69) b. 1781 - 1862, as living next door.
She is possibly Alfred C Cunningham's widowed grandmother who was married to Moses Cunningham 1774 - 1857.
The problem is...Alfred married Mary Polly Hatcher on 17Mar1843, he was age 36...and Mary Polly was a young 22 year old.
I cannot find any documentation what-so-ever as to who the mother is of young Alfred C Cunningham. Mary Polly was age 11 when he was born...also, as stated above, she was 22 when she first married.
Public records of Sevier County were almost completely destroyed by fire on March 25, 1856. I've encountered only two other Cunningham descendants who also have eagle eyes with regards to research, and DON'T confuse, like most researchers, and/or link this Alfred C Cunningham, (b. 1806), with another Alfred C (CHARLES) Cunningham, (b. 16 Oct 1814 d. 19 Feb 1851), who married Isabel Hutton (1815 - 1905). Both Alfred's were born and married in Blount County Tennessee...but come from two different families.
I've read all the theories, but does anyone know for sure who his mother was?
