My 3rd great grandfather John Curran was born in 1844 in Parkhead, Lanarkshire, Scotland. In the 1850 Census he was listed as the adopted son of John and Agnes Roy living in Airdrie Road, Barrachine, Shettleston with John and Agnes and other adopted children Helen Frew aged 2 and Alexander Roy aged 19. Alexander may have been John's true brother as he named one of his sons after him and the name Alexander has continued through the family until today. John Roy was a weaver and John Jr. and Alexander became coal miners. John Curran Roy migrated to Australia to the Newcastle region.
