Hello, cousin!William Franklin Curtis born abt 1859 Pope Co Arkansas, died before 1900 Benton Co Mississippi, was my lst cousin, 3x removed. In other words, my grandpa Johnson Albert Curtis and William Franklin Curtis were lst cousins.
William Franklin Curtis is out of George Curtis born abt 1827 Jackson Co Tenn.George Curtis died abt 1878 - but I cannot find his grave. He first married a Jane ? and second married Louisa ?.Had issue with both wives. You are out of first wife Jane.
Grandpa Johnson Albert Curtis is out of George Curtis' brother Moses Curtis b abt 1818 Jackson Co Tenn.
I have had a very difficult time working your line. Most of the Curtis men left Mississippi and went to Pope County Arkansas. But on your line David & William reversed the process, leaving Pope County & moving to Mississippi. That was the first hurdle to get across.Lots more research ongoing on this line.
Hillary Curtis Sr born abt 1795, died before 1870 Pope Co Arkansas married Susannah Gulley. They had a son named Hillary "Heck" Curtis, Jr. born abt 1828 Jackson Co Tenn.Heck married Susan Blackshear. So, the Hillary Curtis you found could be either the father or the son.Hillary Jr is buried at Forks of the Creek Cemetery in Pope Co.Hillary Sr is probably buried @ Forks of the Creek Cem, but no evidence found.
I have a Curtis tree and will be very happy to share my research with you.Perhaps you know more about why William & David Curtis wound up in Benton Co Miss - have always wondered about that.
Hillary Curtis Sr is out of Moses Curtis who was born abt 1760 in Virginia & died after the 1830 census was taken in Jackson Co Tenn.We know Moses Curtis' wife was Martha "Patsy", but not her maiden name. She died in SC before 1810 and Moses & family moved to Jackson Co Tenn.I have a Deed of Conveyance dated 1801 in Union Co SC where Moses Curtis sold land to a John Goodwin, and Patsey Curtis, Wife of Moses Curtis, relinquished her claim of dower 27th day of March 1801. Copy of this 2 page document was sent to me by Curtis researcher Al Field in Sept of 2011.Some researchers erroneously have our Moses Curtis' wife as a Patsy Skaggs who he supposedly married in Williamson Co Tenn in 1821.That is totally false -- that is another Moses Curtis.
Anyway, always glad to find another Curtis cousin!Look forward to working with you.
