Greetings,
I stumbled onto this forum a few days ago. I am the great great grandson of Thomas Cussen, b. 1873 and d. 1925 and married to Ida Waltz. I live in Huntington, IN in which many of my immediate family originated. I understand that Bartholomew Cussen would have been my great great great Grandfather of which some of you have already written about. Thomas and Ida are both buried in Huntington along with my great grandfather Robert Cussen Sr. who I met as a child and he died in 1993. I have been told that two of Thomas' brothers are also buried in Huntington at a different cemetery, but I have not found them yet.Robert Cussen Sr. had several children, one of which is my grandfather Robert Cussen Jr. (Iowa).I have numerous documents pertaining to both Thomas and Bartholomew, including veteran pension applications. Bartholomew applied for disability in the 1890s due to an injury sustained by fall in which he was a transport guard down in Kentucky during the Civil War. He received an honorable discharge in 1864 in Indianapolis, with the known alias of Thomas Howard (this is still a mystery to me). His son Thomas fought during the Spanish American War--I have a picture of him with his buddy dated 1899.He also applied for veterans' pension in 1920. He died in Arkansas of pneumonia in 1925, and his body was paid to be moved by a James Cussen to Indiana who was present at the time of his death. It is unclear to me why Thomas was in Arkansas--the document says he resided their for 8 days. I have a few things from when Robert Cussen Sr. traveled to Ireland--our family directly came from the center of Limerick County Ireland, which some of you have pointed out. That is all I have to offer at this time. I would love to find out more about who Bartholomew's parents were, and if they stayed in Ireland or not. Also, does anyone know why Batholomew was buried in Arkansas? The Arkansas factor here does not make sense to me, especially if B moved to Oklahoma during the latter part of his life.
