Patricia,
My wife's Cutts line did migrate from Maine to South Carolina but I have no record of any relatives in North Carolina. Of course, later generations could have moved north. Here are some bits I have on those who moved to South Carolina. They may give you some leads.
Dave Petrie

In 1687 after the death of Francis Champernowne, Mary (Hoel) Cutt Champernowne moved to South Carolina where her daughter, Bridget Scriven, had gone with her husband, Rev. William Scriven, to Georgetown. Several other of the Cutt children at sometime also went to South Carolina." [Marjorie (Irene Cutts) C. Drisko document per David Cutts]

“Re: Rev. William Scriven or Screven - Rev. William Screven was b. either 1628 or 1629 in or near Somerton in Somerset, England. About 165-1655, he represented the Baptist Church in Somerton and signed a Baptist Confession of Faith that still exists in England - and I think it is in Dr. Williams Library in London, but I haven't seen the declaration - only a printed transcript of it. He preached in Somerton and other parts of that area for a number of years, even after persecution began. About 1670, he left and went to Kittery, Maine, where he married Bridget Cutts in 1674. He was again baptised and ordained to preach by First Baptist Church of Boston, Mass about 1675. There was so much persecution of Baptist in Maine, however, so he moved his entire congregation to South Carolina. The date is disputed - either 1686 or a few years later. This information came from the CUTTS FAMILY book I found at the LDS on microfilm, p. 16.” [Betty Clay - ] “Somerton Plantation: Located three mile north of Pinopolis. First granted to John Stewart in 1690 (Could be 1696). Acquired by William Scriven in 1698. (He was the first Baptist minister in South Carolina).
