I sure wish more Acadian families would do the DNA testing.
There is an old posting by an Acadian priest of the 1740s or so that says he was surprised to find many of his parishoners were Irish: and names the Pitres as one of them!
DNA could really help clear up a lot
We have just found new things about the Louis Sire line as well.
Looking at the original marriage certificate: it says:
His parents were present at the wedding: Jean Sire and Marg. Rimbault
This was a mass blessing of previous civil marriages of many persons.
apparently this was held in Mines.....
and those not from the Mines parish were listed as being
and we know from the names: thats "elsewhere" in Acadia: other towns
Jean Sire is listed as one of these "elsewhere" people
but Louis is listed as being from Dunkirk: for he himself
This would explaint the lack of documents showing any marriages for a Jean Sire in Dunkirk or any birth of a Louis at the right times.
It would seem Louis was born in Acadia and probably joined up with the French navy that had ships stationed in Dunkirk during his lifetime or became a sea merchant and only later came back to Acadia and married Rimbault
This new challeng is:
The only Jean Sire we have ever known to be in Acadia assuming Louis was born around 1685 or so making this Jean born around 1670: is our own Jean Baptiste
This new evidence is rather startling:
It seems to suggest a few things:
a) that JB had more than one marriage.....he didnt marry Melanson until 1692 or so
b) he had a "natural" marriage that was not official and Louis is a on of that marriage
c) Pierre had another son that used Jean as a prenom: Jean George Jean Marc: some other Jean we never knew about and that has been confused over time with JB
d) some other Jean Sire was in the region and simply missed being in the various census of the day
e) our JB adopted a Native child....who took his last name
What we do know: is that the one DNA sample we have for Louis is 100% Native
This DNA travels down the Jean lineage of Louis sons
We desperately need more samples of other branches: Charles Pierre Paul
to know if Louis himself was a native
or an until now unknown child of Pierres lineage
We learn new things every day that challenge our old ideas!
