I am searching the name Charnik. I have found my family in the 1920 and 1930 census records in Snow Shoe, Centre County, PA
The family that I have is from Galacia Mary (Maria) b, 1842d. 1914 widow when she arrived son: Joseph 1872 also born in Poland/Austriad. aft 1930 He married: Mary Hanaskyb.1885 Poland - 1964
Mary (Hanasky) Charnik b.1885 her immigration paperwork reads:
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Maria Czernik Name: Maria Czernik Arrival Date: 15 Apr 1905 Birth Year: abt 1885 Age: 20 Gender: Female Ethnicity/Race- /Nationality: Polish Port of Departure: Trieste Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Georgia
I have located what I believe to be the 2nd set of immigration paperwork: New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Maria Czernik Name: Maria Czernik Arrival Date: 7 Dec 1910 Birth Year: abt 1885 Age: 25 Gender: Female Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse
Also listed with Maria were her 2 sons Francis age 8 b. Poland and a son whose name I can not make out age 2. Also Maria's mother in law Marya age 68 who is listed as a widow.
I can not make out the name of the person closest to them from the homeland but the town is Brzegi. So it looks like Maria (1885) came over with her husband Joseph and son Francis.Went back 3 years later pregnant had her 2nd child over there as he was age 2 on the immigration papers, and brought back her mother in law.
They settled in Snow Shoe, Centre County, PA.
Joseph and Mary had 7 children. One daughter died in infancy, and there were 5 sons Frank, Andrew, Joseph, Frank, & Walter and 1 daughter Anna that lived to adulthood.
I am wondering if there is anyone who might recognize this family or know the area in Poland.
