Hi Zlatica, First of all, thank you very much for your thoughtful insights and hints.
I have Jans' SS-5 and WW2 draft records. On the draft card, it says Komarniki, Poland.
On the SS-5, it says Komarnik, but after a more careful examination, it seems there is a mark in the folded crease of the original document, that could be the letter i.
Now I am confused.:o)
I always believed it was Komarnik, northeast of Svidnik, rignt near the border. That also puts him near where my Grandmother came from, Jaslo (but they were married in the US), and matched with Jans' stories about living in the mountains, and working on horses and carriages.
I had the chance to do a very brief visit to Komarnik once during a business trip in Slovakia.A very beautiful place.
To add one more confusion, my older cousin did a detailed geneological study about my Grandmothers side of the family, and he puts Jan in Komarnicki Poland. If I Google map that area, it comes back as Komorniki near Poznan.Quite far from Jaslo.
So, now I need to rethink this investigation, but the good news is that I believe Katelyns' GreadGrandfather Alex was the missing brother of Jan.I have sent in the SS-5 request to confirm his parents name and his place of birth.
A quick question for you. What is the difference between Komarnik, and Komarniki?
