Aged Citizen Passes Away
Mrs. Elizabeth Stokely died at the home of her son, I.N. Daffron, in this city at 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, after an illness of several weeks duration. Hope of her recovery had been abandoned, owing to her advanced age, and her death, while not a surprise, was the source of deepest regret to her many friends in Wayne County.
Mrs. Stokely was born in Tennessee something more than 85 years ago. She was first married to Smith Daffron, who died in May 1868. Of this union two sons survive; Thomas Daffron of Piedmont, and I.N. Daffron of this city. She was married to William Stokely in 1872, who died some 20 years ago, since which time, she made her home with I.N. Daffron's family.
She was a member of the Piedmont Baptist Church and lived a consecrated Christian life. The body was taken to Piedmont Tuesday and was buried in the Piedmont Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted at the Piedmont Baptist Church by Rev. A.E. McCall. Those from this place who accompanied the body to Piedmont are; Mr. and Mrs. I.N. Daffron and daughters, Misses Clara and Ann; Mrs. I.L. rhodes; S.J. Malugen and C.R. Reed. (This obituary was copied from the Film of the Greenville Sun, Greenville, Mo. Week of Thurs. Dec. 24, 1914).
