In my research of my Henry/Pittsylvania County, VA Cook family, in a Henry County Order Book notation regarding the estate of my ancestor, James Cook, here is the order:
"Admin. of the estate of James Cook is granted to Nightingale Cook who made oath according to law and with Wm. Ryan, Wm. Gardner, and Ignatius Sims, her sureties, enter into Bond and ask the same Edward Choat, Swinfield Hill, Thomas Hill, and John Ferguson, any three of them are appointed to appraise the said estate."
Now, before the Cooks moved to Pittsylvania Co in 1767, they lived in the Sailor Creek area, Raleigh Parish, very near the property of...Nightingale Dalby. Since Nightingale is hardly a Cook name, it seemed quite a coincidence that 2 Nightingales would be living in the same neighborhood. I believe it is possible that James Cook's wife, the name of whom has never been known, or possible his daughter may be linked to Nightingale Dalby.
