Here is my line. My grandmother was Gracie Mae Manuel. Her parents were James Harrison Manuel and Nannie Belle Deering. Nannie Belle's parents were William E. "Ned" Deer/Deering and Mary Manuel Wilson Deering. Ned's mother was Nellie Deer/Deering.
I have information and pictures of Nellie and her family. I think that Nellie's mother was Patty Dismang. In 1880 Pittsylvania Co. Va census.Nellie is listed as living beside William F. Moore.Nellie's grandaughter Nannie later married William Moore's son William Anderson Moore. Living with William F. Moore, is his aunt, Patty. She is the only Patty age 90 in Pittsylvania Co.I think that William F. and Nellie were siblings.Nellie's mother is listed as Patty Deering on Nellie's death certificate. I think that the Deer/Deerings are related to the Stokes Co. NC Dearings.John R. Deering, born Stokes Co, moved to Ohio in the early 1800s.He had a daughter named Susan. She was born Aug. 25, 1821.Nellie had a sister named Susan.Ruth Steward Deering, Augusta's granddaugher told me that Nellie and her sisters came from Ohio in a covered wagon.I think that Patty and John R. Dearing were married and they moved to Ohio with their girls.I think that something happened, divorce or seperation and that Patty returned home with her children. The Dearings of Stokes Co. are related to the Dearings of Bedford Co. Virginia.Ruth also said that Susan used to visit her family in Bedford Co. I haven't been able to confirm all of this but it seems reasonable.Susan had children with a black man.Nellie is said to have had children with a black man and an Indian. The photos of her children seem to confirm this. Some definitely look black, some look Indian. I know where Nellie is buried too. Would love to exchange info. You can contact me further at firstname.lastname@example.org Desiree
