There appear to be two main branches of Dandridges, an English and an American line.As far as is known there were two brothers, Bartholomew and John who were yeomen in Drayton St Leonard, Oxfordshire.John was buried 4 Oct 1640, Bartholomew died in 1638. See Phil Cox's posting in this Forum for the American descendents from Bartholomew which includes Martha Washington.
Someone has created a very detailed database of Dandridges for the English branch descended from John, from which I quote - this is not my work.Your Jonathan fits into this. The basis is:
John died 1640, wife Elizabeth ? son John bptd 7 Jun 1619 m. Mary ?,d. 1684 son William b.c.1647, m. Jane George 1675, d.1693 son John bn. 1691, m.?, d. ? son, Francis, b. 1713, m. Mary Edney 1733, d.1772 son Jonathan, bapt. 7 April 1755, m.Ann Darvell 2 Feb 1784, and 2ndly Martha Darvell, 26 Sep 1818. Sons William b.May 1785, and John Francis bapt 5 Oct 1785. John Francis was one of the 'Captain Swing' rioters and had his death sentanced commuted to transportation to Australia in 1831.
I am descended from John who died in 1640 through two lines and I join up with you under Fancis but from one of his daughters. If you give me your e-mail address I can send you the more detailed tree.
I do not know if anyone has done work on the Dandridges who did not go to America who are descended from Bartholomew. One of them was the protrait painter Bartholomew Dandridge, see the Dictionary of National Biography [British].
