The SC Charleston land records show the following info for a marriage of Adam Daniel:
Book D3-748: 26 & 27 1765 William Donning, planter, of St. George Parish, Dorchester, Berkeley co., to Daniel Doyley, of Charleston, for £6000 currency, 1400a in said Parish, being the remaining part of 2400a after allotting 1000a to Francis Daniel, an infant; the 1400a bounding SE on Daniel Blake & said Francis Daniel; SW on Samuel Hamlin & Co. Richard Bedon; NW on Thomas Broughton (now Benjamin Coachman) & heirs of Mr. Somner; NE on Mr. Waring. Whereas Frances Donning, widow, mother of William, owned about 2400a in St. George Parish known as The Ponds of Weston Hall, on which she lived for many years before her death, & by her will in 1752 devised the land to her son, William, & her daughter, Frances, since dead (Frances receiving 1000a called The Ponds; William the remainder); & whereas Frances, the daughter, married Adam Daniel, Esq., of said parish, & had 1 daughter, Frances, now an infant; & whereas William had asked for & has been granted a partition of the property; the SE part (or 1000a) being allotted to Frances Daniel, the infant; now William sells his share to Doyley. Wit: James Sanders, John Calvert. Before George Johnston, J.P. Recd 2 Sep 1865 [sic] by Fenwicke Bull, Register. Plat shows: Nathaniel Bradwell, D.S., & John De Girardeau, D.S., at request of Miles Brewton, Adam Daniel & Daniel Doyley, resurveyed lands granted....[long description follows]
I believe the land deed info carries more legitimacy in terms of who is the mother of Frances Daniel (daughter of Adam). So the way I see it is:
Ann Blake of the marriage notices above is a second wife and not the mother of Frances. The land deed shows her mom to be Frances Donning (sister of William in the deed). But the Blakes were neighbors to the Daniels and Adam married with them after the birth of his daughter Frances and the death of his 1st wife Frances.Nothing to me suggests that Ann and Frances are the same person with different surnames due to other marriages.
Gotta go quick, regards,
Pam in CA
