Hello Gill, There is a branch of the Daniell family here that was very prominent, and I am trying to track down the descendants myself. I have a particular interest in Edward Daniell's son Ralph Allen Daniell (born in New Zealand). He married into a family here and strange things happened to some of them including arsenic poisoning etc. I own a house that was built in 1865 for his marriage, and has ghosts hanging about,...... Daniell ghosts.
Captain Edward Daniell Died 1866 in New York on route to UK for a family wedding accompanied by his youngest son Ralph Allen Daniell. The two older brothers Edward and Laurance died within 18 months of Ralph dying. The Sister Julia marrying a Major Deane. Edward Daniell (JNR) had a son Percy, who did survive and have family, last tracked through to 1910 (still working on that one) He was the sole heir of a huge farm and business interests in New Zealand. Captain Edward Daniell was one of the first permanent settlers arriving in 1840 on the ship "Adelaide", settling originally in Port Nicholson (Wellington). He brought his wife Julia Penneck Lawrance, and son Laurance. Edward JNR was accompanied out from Cornwall in 1841 on the ship "David".
The downline through Percy Daniell is still being tracked, and although there are Daniell families living here, they are through a later emigrant Charles Edward Daniell 1880 via America.
