Amelia "Milly" DANIEL was born 1795 in NC and died 1860 in Washington County, GA.She married William P. TAYLOR (1787-1851) about 1815, probably in Burke County, GA.They had two sons, William Levin TAYLOR (1826-1884) who married Nancy Maria CLARK, daughter of Charles Edward CLARK, III and Nancy Collins MURPHEY.They also had another son, John R. TAYLOR born 1816 that I know nothing about.I am sure they had other children, as well, but I do not have any information on their other children.
The CLARKS, originally from Westfield, Union County, New Jersey lived in Blythe, Burke County, GA.They were one of the most prominent families in Burke County, GA, as were the other famiies into which they were collateral.
The COLLINS, MURPHEY, RHODES, ANDERSONS, BANKS, ALLENS, TARVER, MELTONS, DANIEL, SMITH, HOUSTON, RHENEYS and other Richmond/Burke County, GA families were all collateral in this time frame.
What I asked to see was the Will of Robert DANIELL who married Amelia LEWIS.Do you have it? You said you did.If so, I would like to see what it says.
I have all too many links to the WHITE, SHECUTT, PICQUET, RIVERS, SMITHS, TATUMS, PREVOST, CARR, and other known Charleston Families for there not to be a connection to Charleston in this DANIEL bunch.
My great-grandparents, Charles W. RICHTER (1807-1884) and Anne Eliza POTTER (1808-1863) migrated from St. Croix, DWI to Madison, Morgan County, GA in 1837.Her father, Sir Arthur POTTER (1788-1843), was the Governor General of the Dutch West Indies. He descended from a noble Prussian family that had migrated to St. Croix during the Napoleonic Wars and had graduated from the University of Bonn in the early 1830's. Her mother, Margaret WHITE (1790-1849), was the daughter of Captain John/Robert WHITE, US Navy. There are a lot of links in this total bunch to NJ and its surrounding areas.
Anne Eliza's younger sister, Margaret POTTER (1810-1863) married Joseph John TATUM and they migrated by 1850 to Marietta, Cobb County, GA. Joseph John "Jesse" TATUM was a big merchant and slave trader before the CW in Marietta.Their grand daughter, Alice Josophine McCLELLAN (1858-1907) married Alonzo James WHITE, Jr., Esq. of Charleston. He was the grandson of John Blake WHITE and Elizabeth ALLSTON of Cahrleston.Do any of these names ring a bell with you?
After Alonzo's death in 1877 Alice married Theodore Weld BIRNEY, Esq. of Chevy Chase, MD.Alice McClellan BIRNEY founded the PTA in 1897 ans was its President until her death in 1907.Alice was my second cousin, once removed.
Frances Beatrice MUSTIN (1862-1915), daughter of LT. Milton Anthony "Tony" MUSTIN, Esq. (1834-1924) married Anna Maria RICHTER (1836-1926), daughter of CWR and AEP.She was my first cousin, once removed, and daughter of my Grand Aunt and Uncle.Frances married Thomas Pinckney ALSTON (1865-1940) and he was the grandson of Col. Thomas Pinckney ALSTON, Sr. (1795-1839) and Susan Elizabeth SMITH (1805-1884) of Charleston.
It gets better.Frances's sister, Mary Louise MUSTIN (1865-1956) married Charles Daniel CARR, Esq. (1861-1932) of Augusta. He was the grandson of Charles Dabney CARR, Jr. and Margaret Amelia PREVOST of Charleston.
Tony and Anna also had a son -- Col. William Richter MUSTIN, Esq. (1857-1901) of Madison, Morgan County, GA and he married Junie Whatley WRIGHT (1866-1900) of Beech Island, SC. I am sure the WRIGHTS and WHATLEYS, who lived in Barnwell County, SC, were also originally from Charleston.
Anna Maria's brother, Martin L. RICHTER (1846-1924) married Hallie Elise RIVERS (1850-1935).She was the daughter of Professor Winfield M. RIVERS (1824-1905) of Charleston and later, Augusta.Hallie's Christenened name may have been Hariette or Henrietta, as I have seen both listed.Regardless, in 1880, a Albenia SHECUTT is living with her and her husband in Madison, GA and she is listed as a second cousin in the 1880 Morgan County, GA census.I know the SHECUTT family is not tied to the RICHTERS, so I assumn it was tied to the RIVERS family. We also know the SHECUTT family was an old Charleston, SC family. John Linnaus SHECUTT wrote the first history of Charleston, SC.
To show you how my DANIEL family fits into all of this, my grandmother was Alice Elizabeth DANIEL (1854-1924) who married John C. RICHTER, Sr. (1848-1907) in 1872.She was the daughter of Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. (1809-1865) of Bethany, Jefferson County, GA.JCR was a younger brother of Anna Maria RICHTER who married Tony MUSTIN and Martin L. RICHTER who married Hallie RIVERS.
Now, are you starting to see my interest in this DANIELL family of Charleston, SC?Also, everthing I have stated here about my RICHTER, DANIEL and their other collateral families is 100% accurate and documented by primary source information (including family bibles, newspaper accounts or other family information).None of this is informatiion is from some family genealogical book, either.
The MURPHEY family, which I mentioned previously, descended from Nicholas MURPHEY that came over with Oglethorpe to GA in 1732.One of the grandsons of Rev. Nicholas MURPHEY (1785-1853 a ME Minister), a Dr. William MURPHEY, married the sister of LT Gen. James LONGSTREET whose family was from Augusta, Richmond County, GA/Edgefield, SC area.My GGF and his younger brother, James L. DANIEL (1814-1857) married, as their first wives, two of Rev. MURPHEY's daughters.Does this kind of put things into perspective?
I need a Robert C. DANIEL born about 1765, age 50-60 in 1820 Burke County, GA census, who migrated to Burke County, GA about 1812.I believe him to be the parent of my DANIEL bunch. He was possibly married to the Penelope DANIEL (1773-1846) whose obit we find in the Southern Christian Advocate in 1846.It states she was the wife of Robert DANIEL of Burke County, GA and they migrated to GA from NC about 1812.This matches up with other information I have from the VALLOTTON family which states the parents of my DANIEL bunch were a Robert C. DANIEL and Penelope LANE of Burke County, GA.I do not know how accurate any of this infomation is.
I do know there are links from my DANIEL bunch of Burke and Jefferson county, GA to Madison, Morgan County, GA and before that Wilkes and Greene County, GA, since Morgan County was created from both counties.I also know there are all too many collateral links between Charleston, Augusta and Madison, GA for there not to be some similar links in my DANIEL family.
That, is how they operated back then -- family married family......I think we see this in these other families and I think it will be found to be the case in my DANIEL family, as well.
