I searched the Social Security Death Index for Carmelo DAntoni and found a Carmelo who was born on 10/25/1876 and died in January of 1966 in Louisiana.I think that since the name was so often misspelled, as you've found, that it's a good idea the search using soundex or to try several variations.I believe that the correct spelling (as of 1930)is D'Antoni because we have a copy of a letter from Sicily using that spelling. I heard an Italian speaking person pronounce it Dan'-toni.
