After searching for years for My G.G. Grandfather's Family I was at a Standstill. He always called hinself Jessie Doe in the Federal Censuses in MI.I knew where he was in 1860, 1870 & 1880.He was in Port Huron in 1860 & in Detroit in 1870 & 1880.
They said he was from French Canada. However I ordered Quebec Church Records constantly.I could never find a name like that. When we got a FHC here I ordered Detroit death records & found My G. Grandfather's Brother's death. It listed his Mother as being born Emelie Lalonde.I knew she was an Emelie from Census Records.I then ordered Detroit City Directories.I found him at the same address in One Directory as Jacinte Daoust & in another as Hyacinthe Daoust.
I ordered Loiselle marriage records & found there marriage in St-Polycarpe, Quebec. Then it was just a matter of going backwards.I now have them to the 1580's in France. So I was a Daoust, NOT a Doe.
