Joseph Lucius Darsey is listed on Hilliard's Legion Muster Roll, 2nd Battalion, Muster Roll 1862-1863 as a Private in Company F ("Dr. Kelley Guards")from Coosa County, Alabama. Colonel Henry Washington Hilliard was authorized to recruit a "legion" of 3000 men to Confederate service. They were organized in Montgomery, AL on 25 June, 1862. I found his name when I located the name of James A. Cranford, also a private in Co. F on the same muster roll. The information was posted on a website by Ken Jones (just enter a search for Hilliard's Legion 2nd Battalion & you should find it). James A. Cranford is listed just above Darsey's name, which is how I came across Darsey. I have found my early Cranford kin with connections to families named Dorsey/Darsey/Dossey (& similar name variations) dating from Colonial Maryland, NC, GA, etc.
