My branch of the Dates family has been traced back to settlers that arrived shortly after the Mayflower. Since most of the settlers at that time where leaving specific parts of Europe because of religious persecution we've assumed our heritage is tied up in that. I don't have the documentation in front of me but I'm putting "shortly after" as with in 50 years. I'm not sure how long after that it was but an Adam Dates settled in New Jersey. Sons of Adam moved into Pennsylvania and New York. Again the documentation is available to me but I don't have it front of me so names are escaping me right now. A grandson of Adam's eventually settled in the Ithaca NY area which is where 5 or 6 generations stayed. There are still Dates there but we've also spread back into Pennsylvania, Canada, New England, and various points west. If anyone needs the specifics of the early years I'll get the papers and pass on what I can.
