Davidson – Scotland to Niagara area, Ontario, Canada, before the 1840’s
I am trying to trace the parents and siblings of my great great grandmother. Christina Davidson was born about 1822 in Scotland, married Richard Tice in the early 1840’s likely in Lincoln Country, Ontario, Canada (in the Niagara Peninsula), lived in Caistorville Ontario until about 1880. She died in 1896 and is buried with her daughter (Isabella Vassie) and sister Mary Hughson in Old Hamilton Cemetery, in Hamilton Ontario.
In the 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881 Censuses she was recorded as Christean Tice, Christina Tice, and Christian Tice; and on her death certificate Christian Tice.
Christina and Richard’s children included: Wellington Culver Tice (born 1844, married Mary Ann Spence in 1874, lived in Hamilton, had son Culver Tice in 1874 and daughter Alva Elda Tice in 1880), Jacob Welsey Tice (born 1852, married Jessie Ferguson in 1880, moved to Hamilton); Mary Elizabeth Tice (born 1848, married William Nassau Wilson in 1871, maybe lived in Peel County and had children George, Sarah and Robert); Amanda M Tice (born 1858 or 1859, had daughter Olive May Tice, who first married William Millar, and later married Fred Harrison and had daughters Lida and Olive); Isabella Tice (born 1862, married George Vassie in 1882, but died in ?).
Christina’s parents were William Davidson (born 1788 in Scotland) and Annie Davidson (born 1798) living in Caistor, Ontario.
Christina’s sister was Mary Davidson (born 1820 In Scotland), married Jacob Tice (the brother of Christina’s husband). Jacob died in 1852 (no children), and Mary remarried (to George N Hughson, born 1819 in Scotland) and lived in Hamilton Ontario. After George died (in 1895) Mary Hughson lived with her grand niece Olive Millar). Mary died in 1909 in Hamilton. George N Hughson may be Nathaniel Hughson, son of George Hughson and Phoebe Griffith.
Christina’s other sister was Martha Davidson (born in 1827 in Scotland); married Smith Varney Johnson (son of Henry Johnson and Mary Dolly Merritt) in 1849; lived in Seneca Township Haldimand Ontario; moved to Dwight, Huron Michigan before 1860; and had children Alexander, Rosalie, Edmund, Mary, William, Barbara, Jane and Emma (who married James Fralick). Martha Davidson died February 13, 1875 in Michigan.
Another of Christina’s sisters was Barbary Davidson (born 1835 in Canada).
Christina’s brother was Alexander Davidson (born 1835, in Canada), married Emily Lymburner (daughter of Rebecca Lymburner) and had children Athelia and Robert. Alexander Davidson was an innkeeper in Wainfleet, and Port Davidson was named after him. He died in 1880. His wife Emily died in 1919.
If anyone has information on these families I would greatly appreciate your help.
