Rudolph B. Davila; Vista, California
Does anybody know about the ethnic origins of Rudolph B. Davila? In a recent edition of the Los Angeles Times, California Section, Feb. 7, 2002, page 14, there appeared an obituary on the life of Mr. Rudoplh B. Davila, who passed away Jan. 26, 2002.It stated that Mr. Davila was among 21 Asian Americans who received Medals of Honor at a White House ceremony in May, 2000, in recognition for their valor on the battlefield in WWII.The article went on to state that Mr. Davila was of Filipino descent. This is surprising news to those who knew Mr. Davila, who was better known as "Rudy".To everybody's knowledge he was the youngest brother of the Rev. Nicholas B. Davila, who served as pastor of Plaza Methodist Church, Los Angeles, from 1946 to 1960.Nicholas B. Davila's family was from the city of Gomez Palacio, State of Durango, Mexico.Rudolph and Nicholas had two other sibblings - a sister, Candelaria, and brother, Humberto, who were also of Mexican origin.Does anybody have information on how, why and when Rudolph B. Davila became a Filipino Asian American, and if the photo accompanying the obituary is indeed the same man who was Nicholas B. Davila's brother?Any answers will be welcome.
