I have been looking at three Deans for a possible family connection without success one way the other: my ancestor Rachel Dean who married Levi Hunt in 1784; Mary “Polly” Dean who married Henry Willis in 1789; and James Dean who married Patience Holman/Holeman in 1782.All three Deans, Rachel, Mary and James, as far as I know, do not have any known siblings or parents.I have posted some loose information below about the three but have not been able to connect them other than what is listed below.Any comments, corrections or additional information is appreciated.
Rachel Deen/Dean was born between 1760 and 1770, according to census records, and married Levi Hunt in Surry county, North Carolina on or about 11 Dec 1784 as that is the date of the marriage bond posted by Samuel Bryan. He was probably Levi’s brother-in-law as Samuel Bryan, son of William and Mary (Boone) Bryan, married Levi’s half sister Mary Hunt on 5 Oct 1775 in Rowan Co. NC.(Levi Hunt and his twin Agnes were born in Rowan County on 12 March 1757 from Col. Jonathan Hunt’s first wife Mary Smith, who died after the childbirth.Mary Hunt and twin George were born on 9 April 1759 by Jonathan’s second wife, Isabel Hampton, who died before 3 January 1761 when Jonathan married his third wife Margaret Lowrance, who somehow managed to survive Jonathan.)
Rachel and Levi Hunt were in FayetteCounty, Kentucky by August 1787 when Levi Hunt became a member of the Marble Creek Baptist Church.Their son Thomas Hunt was born on 17 Dec 1787.Levi and Rachel are in Fayette County until 1800 when they move to Clermont county, Ohio.On 2 Jan 1812 son Thomas Hunt marries Elizabeth Bredwell, daughter of Yevelton Bredwell and Catherine Collins, in Clermont Co..Elizabeth was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky on 18 Dec 1791.The marriage ceremony was performed by Henry Willis, justice of the peace.
Henry Willis married Mary “Polly Dean” in Bourbon Co., KY on 29 May 1789.Mary was born about 1773.Henry and Mary named their second daughter Rachel, born in 1791. The Henry Willis and Yelventon Bredwell families were in Bourbon Co. Ky and two children from each family married in Clermont Co., OH:Jacob Willis married Mary “Polly” Bredwell in 1814 and Mary Willis married Thomas Bredwell in 1822.Both Henry Willis and Yelventon Bredwell had moved from Kentucky to Clermont County in or by 1806.
James Dean was born about 1760 and married Patience Holman/Holeman in 1782 in North Carolina, probably in Rowan County.Patience was the daughter of Isaac Holman (c.1725-1807) and Mary Benton.Isaac and his brothers Thomas and Henry were long time residents.Thomas Holman is my ancestor on another family line.He is the one “Holman’s Ford” is named after and was a neighbor of Daniel Boone. On 21 Feb 1764 Thomas Holman witnesses a deed signed by Daniel Boone and his wife Rebecca (Bryan) Boone.James and Patience (Holman) Dean’s first two children were born in North Carolina but third child (Keziah) born in 1787 was born in Kentucky (was she named after Keziah (Smith) Dean (c1743-1787) who married John Dean (c1741-1775), both of whom died in Surry Co., NC? Keziah’s will does not name a child James.).James Dean ends up in Jessemine County, KY, which was formed in 1799.
In 1786 James Dean is on the central Kentucky militia list of Capt. Cave Johnson’s company, 112.Also on the list are Edward, George and Nicholas Holeman.Edward and Nicholas are probably sons of Henry Holeman, brother of Isaac and Thomas.(George is probably a nephew of Henry but exact relationship not known.)
The 1788 tax list for Fayette County includes:
Dean, James *
Holeman, Daniel[probable son of Isaac]
Holemn, Edward * [probable son of Henry]
Holeman, George * [nephew of Henry]
Holeman, Henry[brother of Isaac and Thomas, d.1789]

Holeman, Nicholas *[probable son of Henry]
Hunt, Wilson [brother of Levi and John Hunt]
Johnson, Cave *
* On Capt. Cave Johnson’s 1786 militia list.Cave Johnson ended up in Woodford Co, KY, which was formed in 1789 and is immediately west of Fayette Co.
Bourbon County, KY was formed in 1786 out of Fayette County. The 1793 tax list for Bourbon County includes:
Bridwell, Yelverton [Bredwell]
Bryan, Mary *
Bryan, Samuel *
Deam, John [Dean?]
Hunt, John *
*Mary Bryan, Samuel Bryan and John Hunt were members of the Bryan Station Baptist Church in Fayette County with Levi and Rachel (Dean) Hunt.
The children of Rachel Dean and Levi Hunt are:
The children of Mary “Polly” Dean and Henry Willis are:
John Yelventon Willis
Sarah C. Willis
The children of James Dean and Patience Holman are:
Squire B. Dean
Thomas Holman Dean
John W. Dean

I realize there may not be any family connection between Rachel, Mary and James but if someone has additional information or any comments I’d appreciate reading it.
