Birdsall Bulletin 38, page 3, dated February 1996, published by the now-defunct Birdsall Family Association, contains an abstract of the will of Abraham Birdsall, who was born about 1789, died 19 March 1831 and was purportedly buried in Grove Cemetery, Brewster, Putnam Co., NY. The will was filed in the Surrogate Court in Carmel, Putnam Co., NY Liber B. p. 368. The abstract says Abraham's wife was Phebe Dean, and in parentheses it says "Elizabeth Dean d/o David and Deborah (Perkins) Dean." The children are listed as Caleb (Petitioner and Executor), Mary, Henry, Fanny, William, Phebe, Laura and Sarah. Then it says that Caleb was already deceased, so a citation issued directly to the surviving widow, Phebe, on 12 April 1831.
I also have information on an Archibald Birdsall, born about 1793, died 19 March 1863, buried in Kelly Cemetery next to the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Carmel, Putnam Co., NY. His wife was Betsy Dean, purportedly the daughter of David Dean and Deborah (Higby) Dean, who is buried in the same cemetery. According to the same Birdsall Bulletin #38, page 2, the children of Archibald and Betsy (Dean) Birdsall were John, Emily (m. Elijah Lee Lockwood of Yorktown), Sarah Jane (m. Stephen E. Arnold), Anna Maria (m. Harrison Heroy), Legrand M. of Brooklyn, Warren T. of Warwick, Orange Co., Deborah of Fishkill, Matilda of NYC (d. age 28, never married), Elizabeth (m. Richards of Downers Grove, IL), and Daniel of Philipstown. There is evidence that Archibald and Betsy also had a son David D. Birdsall who m. Elizabeth Lockwood and in 1850 lived in Ossining, Westchester Co., NY.
I believe the parents of this Archibald Birdsall were Thomas Birdsall and Priscilla Marsh. The parents of Thomas Birdsall were James Birdsall and Hannah Akin of Quaker Hill (Pawling), Dutchess Co., NY. The parents of James Birdsall were Nathan Birdsall and Jane Langdon, who moved to Quaker Hill around 1728 from Long Island. I have no idea who the parents of Abraham Birdsall were, although Archibald and Abraham could easily have been brothers, were close to the same age and lived in the same locale. They apparently married sisters, Phebe and Betsy Dean, daughters of David and Deborah Dean (although the evidence conflicts on Deborah's maiden name). Based upon the names of the children, these are two distinct families.
