"A fatal tragedy took place about ten o'clock Tuesday morning in East Lauderdale when Earl Dean shot and killed almost instantly his brother-in-law,Bill McCarley.The Weapon used being a single barrel shotgun. It is reported that Dean had rented a house and land from McCarley last year and had been notified to vacate on the first of the year, but declined to do so.McCarley had been planning to move the house Dean as occupying and had gone there and torn down the chimney, preparatory to moving it. Dean was away from home at the time, and on his return hunted up McCarley, who was cutting trees in the woods with sevel men, and asked him for a team to move his things with.McCarley told I'm that he had done all he could for him, and without further words Dean raised his shotgun and fired, inflicting wounds from which McCarley died in about an hour. Dean went at once and gave himself up to Constable Garner of Cross Roads beat, who brought him to Florence and placed him in jail. McCarley is survived by his wife and five children, while Dean has a wife and six children. This unfortunate affair has brought a situation where two Lauderdale men are in jail here on the charge of killing their brother-in-law. "
