Hi Emma, It is great to hear from you! I wish that I could have been at Tia Given's 90th birthday party, but I had an unavoidable conflict and was unable to go. I actually am Tia Given's great great nephew. She is my grandmother's (Maria Deanda)aunt. My grandmother was the daughter of Tiburcio (Gomez) Deanda and he was the son of Gabriel Deanda and Teresa Gomez. So, my great grandfather was your mom's first cousin too. I guess that makes us second cousins twice removed.
I have a copy of a transcription of your grandfather's (Tiburcio Lopez Deanda)baptismal record. I'd be happy to share it with you. I am still trying to track down where Tiburcio Deanda and Petra Lopez [your grandfather's parents] came from. I used to suspect Jalisco, but now I'm thinking they may have been from near Monterrey. Since the reunion for Tia Given's 90th birthday, I verified a lot of information about Fermina Deanda (who was not in my records). I had long suspected that she was the sister of Gabriel, but could not verify it. Tonie (Tia Given's daughter) told me that when Tia Given saw what had been compiled she said "donde esta mi Tia Fermina"! That prompted me to search more and I have since been able to verify it via death certificates, etc.
Tonie lives in the Dallas area where I live so we have had a chance to reconnect. I just saw Tia Given at Tonie's daughter's wedding on June 18th!
I'll look for your e-mail address so that we can continue to correspond. Your cousin, James
