I have not researched the Deavors in the counties on the Cape Fear River, but I believe, because of the name of Gilbert Deaver, that they are connected to Richard and Grace Dever of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The name was used in descendents of the couple who were the immigrant ancestors of so many of the Deavers in America.Early Maryland records might disclose the connection.Your John Deavor may be the son of Gilbert or Henry, who were in the area before 1749.
I believe Richard Dever, of Anne Arundel, Maryland. is the son of John Dever, of Totnes, Devor, England, and Grace Dever, wife or Richard, is the Grace Gilbert, born, 1610, in Devon, England. The Devers of Devonshire, England may be proven to be the descendants of Hugh De Vere, Earl of Oxford, b. 1210, Totnes, Devon, England.Hugh De Vere was the son of Robert De Vere and Isabel De Bolbec. The name, Hugh, is also a given name found in the descendents of Richard and Grace.
