This is regarding your insight into the DeBusk family. Elijah, son of John DeBusk and Sarah Eaken is my line. He was born in Washington Co. VA. He married Elizabeth Widener on 8 Sep 1835. Elizabeth's father, Reuben Widener, for his 2nd wife, marred Elijah's sister Ellen.I have a will for Reuben. Elijah DeBusk and Ira DeBusk are the witnesses in it.When he died, Elizabeth and Elijah had moved to IL or MO (not sure which way first).Elijah died 14 Dec 1883 (do not know where he is buried). My mother claims that Elijah was very against slavery and very outspoken, so he had to leave VA and MO before they ran him out.
Elizabeth Widener DeBusk and family migrated to Custer Co. NE in 1885. They owned a homestead there. Her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth DeBusk married Frank A. Gorham in 1884. Sarah died in 1902, leaving her little daughter, Edith May and little son, Harold Leslie Gorham to be raised by her husband and her mother, Elizabeth. All of Elizabeth's children died before they were 35, Sarah was 32.
Elizabeth died 28 Aug 1910 and was laid to rest at West Union Cemetery, Custer Co., NE beside her daughter and 3 other children. Edith May Gorham was my grandmother.I have been to this cemetery and my mother and grandmother decorated the graves there every Memorial Day.
This information comes from my mother who still lives in Sargent NE. I have a picture of Elizabeth Widner DeBusk with her grandchildren. There are quite a few of the descendants of Elijah living near Sargent NE. For more information, send me an email at email@example.com.
