Hello Marguerite, Thank you for the information. It seems the urge to move stayed with Mary Ann. She, her husband, and five children, are living in Mill Row, Chesterfield at the 1881 census. Her first three children Walter 18, Mary Ann 15, and Joseph 11, were born in Brampton but her fourth child Ellen 8, is shown as being born in Derby. The other child recorded at the census Fred 3, was born in Brampton. I am torn between accepting that the family moved to Derby and back some time between 1870 and 1878, and the possibilty of a transcription error at some stage of recording the census details. I think probably the latter. I wonder if December 25th and 26th were two of the few days they didn't have to go to work? Regards and thanks again for your help. Mike Buxton.
