Re: Where Might the DEEMINGS originate?
Many years ago I read in a reference work that Deeming was an eleventh century 'Old' English 'job title'.

Someone appointed by the crown to act as arbiter / adjudicator / administrator of the law amongst the unruly nobility of recently conquered England.
Logically therefore we are 'Peers of the Realm' as I cant see any member of the Nobility accepting judgment from someone of a lesser social standing.
Because its a job title we have no chance of finding out which family (or families) were promoted in this manner.
shame really, I often wonder which castle is mine!
