Try the address below. You may have difficulty getting it to open so here's the name of the web page in case you'll have to use a search engine. The web page is called Germanna History, by: John Blankenbaker and the address I have is: http:homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/ johnsgermnotes/germhis9.html Click on page 32, notes 776-800. Once you're on that page, scroll down to note 782 and the info on the Deer brothers will begin with the arrival of two brothers,Martin and his younger brother John. Their (Prussian/German)surname was Hirsch which translates to Deer in English; hence the adaptation. They arrived in this country in the mid 1700's. John is our direct line as my grandfather was Clarence Deer, Leona's youngest brother. There are also links to our line being traced further back to the 1600's in Germany. This was the only place I could connect Lewis Deer to his parents. Most of the information seems to have come from the Lutheran church records where they still used the surname Hirsch. Community records use Hirsch and Deer interchangeably it seems. I'd love to have any information you come across as well.
