I'm afraid I will probably be of little help in answering your question.I am related to the Degraw line through the marriage of Cornelius Degraw's marriage to Catherine McLellan. She is related to the main line of McLellan's that I'm researching.
I can tell you that Cornelius DeGraw that married Catherine McLellan was born February 23, 1849 in Caradoc, Middlesex Co., Ontario. He was the son of Adonijah DeGraw & Isabella McNeil. They are in the 1861 census for Middlesex Co., Ontario, Canada.Adonijah was listed as 50 years old and stated he was born in Canada.
I do not have anything further on the earlier Degraw line than that.It sounds like in this same thread of messages that Neil who originally posted the query on this line may have a bit more earlier information? You may want to contact him to see if it connects somewhere.
He does seem to indicate the family was in Ontario, Canada as early as 1818.So I don't know if this would tie in at all with your New York connection?
Interestingly, there is also a Cornelius Degraw born about 1811 in the United States living in the 1861 census for Middlesex Co., Ontario, Canada. He was married to a woman named Margaret and they had the following children (all born Canada):John b. 1832; Frederick b. 1834; Sarah Ann b. 1836; Christopher b. 1842; William b. 1846; Hannah b. 1849; Jane b. 1854.
Maybe this Cornelius is somehow connected to yours?And/or he may be connected to Adonijah DeGraw since they are both living in the same area in the 1861 cenus?
Like I mentioned, I'm not sure I'm much help, but maybe this will give you some new leads?
