From what I can tell, most, if not all the De Groot family settled in New York State and New Jersey.
William Pietersen De Groot came to America in 1662, on board the ship "Hope", with his wife and five children. They were from Amsterdam, Holland.
Dirck Jansen De Groot, a native of Rylevelt, in Holland, came to New Amsterdam (New York) as a soldier in the Dutch service, on board the ship "Spotted Cow," on 4-15-1660.
Dirck's brother, Staats De Groot, who, the ship's register says, was a resident of Tricht, Holland, came to American on the same ship, the "Spotted Cow" in 4-1663.He also brought over with him his brother's (Dirck) wife and children.
Staats De Groot married Barbara Springsteen in 1664 in New York and lived in New York and finally New Jersey, where he died.
His brother, Dirck, with his wife, Wybrig Jans, and children resided in New Amsterdam until 1679 when they moved to Flatbush, Long Island, where they remained permanently.Several of Dirck's children removed to Hackensack in 1695-96.
Staats first settled at Brooklyn, where the assessment roll of 1675 showed him to be a taxpayer. In 1678, he was living in Westchester Co., NY.He next turned up at Bergen, NJ.He was in New Amsterdam in 1688 and died between 1688 and 1704, having deeded or willed his lands to his wife Barbara. His children were Yoost, Neltje, Mary, and Geesie.Yoost settled at Tappan (New Jersey I guess) and his descendants spread into Bergen Co., NJ.
This was taken from a web site on the Web and shows that New York and New Jersey were home sites for the DeGroot family. Hope this helps you.
