My goodness, that was fast! I sure wasn't expecting any info that quickly.
I have been in touch with the descendant of Charles Duggald Adrien - his name is Karel deLaet - and we have been trying to figure out if his Albelie (Alberic) deLaet is the same person as the Alberic I am looking for. He had shared his findings from the 1881 Canadian census, with wife Cecile, kids Adoner, Evan, Martha, and Charles. But since that was a completely different set of children from the ones I was familiar with (well, with the exception of "Martha") I thought it must have been two different Alberics. I hadn't considered that Charles might be Carl. That's an interesting possiblity.
At first I thought we'd be able to solve the mystery, as I have quite a bit of info on "my" Martha deLaet, more than on any of the other kids - Carl, Jan, or Yvonne. I have her birth/death dates, married name, husband's name, etc. So that was fortuitous. But alas, it didn't help, because Karel had NO info on "his" Martha deLaet.
I am so new at this! I am not sure how to proceed any further to solve this mystery, unless any of the descendants show up and have information.
I did just find the link to the photograph of Alberic Jr. a couple of hours ago. I was absolutely astonished and thrilled to find it, and also so sad to learn of his passing so recently. (I found it by doing a google search, something that was so obvious it never occurred to me until this morning!) Maybe the thing to do would be to try to get in touch with his wife or son, see if they have any info.
Are you connected somehow with the deLaets? Does this overlap your own research somehow?
If you happen to have a few minutes, I have a few questions for an experienced researcher.
How did you access the Canadian census? I have tried and tried and can't seem to find any easy online access to the Canadian census records. Also, regarding the Ellis Island records...if Alberic, Ruby, Yvonne, and Muriel are listed in Ellis Island records, does that mean that they immigrated from Belgium? I was under the impression that they were from Canada. They wouldn't have arrived on a ship from Canada, would they????
