Hopeley was the last "DeMerritt" from this direct branch of the family to live at the Homestead in Madbury, NH.Don't have much information on the sisters, other than Louisa Maria married a second cousin Ezra Ederic DeMerritt, fifth in descent from Eli, the other son of Eli the Emigrant. They had a son named John b. 8-8-1856

Eli the Emigrant arrived in NH around 1669 after having first come ashore in Arundel, ME now known as Cape Porpoise. He was said to have come from the Isle of Jersey. He settled in Madbury, NH around 1723 on the Demeritt Homestead which has since passed from the family but is still there with a very interesting Demeritt family cemetary at the rear of the old house.
The Powder Major was said to have carried ammunition on an oxcart from Durham, NH to Bunker Hill in time for the battle.

I am from the branch of the Demeritt family of Eli, Jr. son of Eli the Emigrant.I have visited the Demeritt Homestead in Madbury, NH.There is also a large memorial stone to the Powder Major in the town.
