I am stuck somewhere in between the Louis DeMoss roots in France and myself... although I feel the gap is narrowing.Any help in making a connection will be much appreciated... and all additional facts/ stories are welcome too.
Here is what I know...
My grandfather was LaVerne Edward DeMoss, b. 1903, (wife, Ivah Mae Shaffer)... whose father was Herman DeMoss (possibly, technically, John Herman, although it is clear he went by Herman: wife, Lydia Kasson).I've been told a possible connection as Herman's father is a Charles Hirem DeMoss. This conclusion was reached by comparing the date of death & location of Charles H. to a telegraph I have addressed to Herman in Hendley, NE that says "Father is dying", signed Bud from Grenola, Kansas. So, this is not necessarily a definite connection, but you can see how it is assumed.I do not know who Bud is, and I do not know anything else past Herman.
I also have a family document noting the marriage of Andrew DeMoss & Elizabeth Pruett (or Pruitt)... listing their children, dates, and other miscellaneous information regarding this line.I assume it is safe to say this is the connection to myself?I have run with the info and can trace the line back to France but I cannot make the connection to the generations nearer to myself.
The children of Andrew R. & Elizabeth are Sarah, Mary, George W., Elizabeth, Emaline, Andrew Jackson, Nancy, Juda & Charles.(Also note that Andrew was also married to a Polly Harper & a Sarah Wood as well... in fact, I think I recall that Charles is hers)I'm not even sure who to follow next, although there are more notes on Andrew Jackson and I find myself assuming he is the next step.I have him as marrying Martha Clements Cozzens... and at least having two daughters... Helen Ann & Rosalie E.Just as I'm stuck at Herman on one end, I am stuck on this end, as between the only two children I can find are daughters and the DeMoss name would not have been carried on!The last bit of information is loose too (Cozzens, etc) as I like to find numerous sources to back up a connection and I could only find 1 reference so far.
I also have a random note on this same document about a "Mary Deery, born Sept 17, 1808"... and then, further down the page, "Mary M. DeMoss died Sept. 14, 1872".Not sure if it's the same Mary... the dates do not match the Mary of Andrew R. & Elizabeth, so I am clueless on both.
I will be excited to hear anything anyone has to offer! My family seems to have mainly settled on the NE/KS border, Furnas Co. & surrounding areas.... this is true even in the present day.
