Donna, I have alot of information on the Dendy family of Alabama.I have photos of Wilbur A and Maude and James T. and Mazie'sgraves in New Hope cemetery.James A Dendy (1825-1880) and Elimina Powell Dendy are the parents of James T.They are buried in Laurel Park, Alexander City, Al. James's parents were Youngsett (1789-1870) and Elizabeth Adkins Dendy.Their graves have not been found. They migrated from South Carolina through Georgia to settle in Tallapoosa Co. AL.Youngsett was the oldest child of John (1765-1847) and Sarah Dendy of Laurens Co. SC.My cousin has been to their graves on private property.John is believed to be the son of William Dendy (born btn 1733-1738) and Clarey Cargill who were from Virginia and settled in Laurens SC. I don't think a clear line has been established back to Europe. There are records of Dendy's in America going back to 1650s, but my family believes this line originated in England, probably Sussex or Surrey. We believe the Scotland claim is incorrect.
So we Dendy's are all cousins, particularly if you are from South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia.
I am descended from James A. Dendy's brother Thomas Daniel Dendy. They were all big families.James T. had 13 children with two wives.
Hope this helps.Let me know if you want more information.
