Ancestors of Margaret A. Dennison
I am researching the ancestors of my great, great grandmother, Margaret A. Dennison, believed to have been born in Lawrence County, Illinois, on May 5, 1828, and who died in Wabash County, Illinois, on August 5, 1900, and is buried in the Friendsville Cemetery.
Research to date indicates that she married James P. McNair, believed to have been born on January 31, 1824, either in Livingston County, New York,or in what later became Wabash County, Illinois.
Their marriage is believed to have taken place in the 1840s as their first children were born in the late 1840s or early 1850s.
James was the son of Charles W. and Amelia F.McNair. The family apparently moved from W. Sparta, Livingston County, New York, to what became Wabash County, Illinois, as Charles W. McNair is shown there in the 1830 census records. I have not been able to find the family in the 1840 or 1850 census records.James, as well as Charles and Amelia are also buried in the Friendsville Cemetery.
It is stated in the "Dutch Webbers of Indiana & Illinois" that:
"The McNair family was one of the most prominent that ever lived in this precinct (Friendsville) and came from New York in 1815."
Research indicates that Margaret's father was born in Kentucky and that her mother was born in Illinois. It also seems to focus on Daniel Dennison, born in Kentucky to William and Margaret Dunlop Dennison, who married Sally Riggs in Lawrence County, Illinois, on April 26, 1824, as being Margaret McNair's parents.
